The Bouw-Man's Review.
I'm sure this is a must see for a huge number of movie-goers, and quite possibly a candidate for the top grosser of 2010. Like "Spider-man 2" and "The Dark Knight" before, there a strong chance "Iron Man 2" will exceed the first installment monetarily. I see an incredible first weekend, plus some resolve that will hold-up well through the month of May. Opening weekend: $150 Million.
There aren't too many sure things in life, but "Iron Man 2" making a lot of money (especially during its opening weekend) is a pretty safe bet. The trailer has all elements to get any movie fan excited for this highly anticipated sequel. You have some clever one-liners, an upgrade in equipment/special effects, intrigue regarding the new villainous characters, U.S. government relevance, as well as an continuous interest in the film's main character. If you sat through this preview at the multiplex over the last six months, inevitably you would've heard someone say (usually a male) say something like, "Man, I can't wait to see that." From my own personal view, someone who's not necessarily a big fan of comic books, I had many questions and my money will be handed over to a movie theater this weekend in hopes of getting answers. "What's the deal with Mickey Rourke's character?" "What's his grudge with Tony Stark/Iron Man?" "Is Sam Rockwell's character a financial rival to Tony Stark/Iron Man, or does he have some other agenda?" "Is Scarlett Johannson's character an adversary, love interest or both? Great preview, and hopefully an even better film.
Noodles' Review.
To say that I'm looking forward to seeing this movie would be an understatement. From the first time I saw RDJr. strap into the suit and smite nameless goons with his hand disruptors, I knew I couldn't wait to see him get into a real battle royale. That's the thing about the first movie in a comic book franchise, you always have to tolerate a certain portion of the movie being just origin stuff. Now that we know how Iron Man came to be, its every fan boy's hope that they spend most of the sequel showing off how cool Iron Man can get.
From the trailer I can't figure out exactly if Tony Stark and his secretary Pepper Potts (Paltrow) are seriously dating or just flirting with the idea. I was never an avid Iron Man fan so I'm not sure where their relationship falls within the source material. Its my hope that if they are together its not a distraction from the ass kickings I'm looking forward to seeing.
Box Office: Considering that it seems like every other studio has decided to vacate this weekend allowing Iron Man to be the only big movie to premiere that it should do extremely well. Considering 'Nightmare' did $32 Mill and it came out to luke warm reviews....I'm going to say that Iron Man 2 will be the year's first blockbuster and top out at just over $120 Million.
