The Bouw-Man.
As a male reviewer who never watched an episode of the show, but ironically saw the first movie, it’s hard to fully understand the success of this franchise.  It truly is a phenomenon that’s breaks many of the rules in terms of what Hollywood determines is a successful formula.  By themselves, none of the main actresses have a great deal of box office clout.  Even its star, Sarah Jessica Parker, can’t draw an audience by herself (“Did You Hear About the Morgans?”  Of course you didn’t).  At a time when unfortunately so many “40-something” actresses are reduced to playing the cardboard wife or mother in films, these four continue their legacy of playing real original female characters.  Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda are household names like Jerry, George Elaine and Kramer, only these four treat their audiences to a film now and then.

Well, on to the trailer.  I think this is how most should be handled.  It’s obvious that something is going on, but it’s up to you to figure out what.  It appears that the main characters are involved in a wedding.  It figures to be a same sex wedding, so you know that has the opportunity for some real funny scenes.  It also appears that the four women take an international vacation together.  Once again, that has the makings for some fun on the big screen.  I’m sure there will be some heartfelt moments as they struggle with their new lives, as indicated by Charlotte mentioning she’s having trouble with her kids.  There was a rumor when the sequel was first announced that one of the main characters would die in this installment, however nothing from the preview indicates that will happen.  Yet, the trailer leaves so much to the imagination that anything could happen.  This is exactly why even someone like me is interested in seeing this film.

Prediction.
Excitement will be abounding when “Sex and City 2” opens this Memorial Day weekend.  There’s so much to like here, that it’s hard to imagine this not taking the number one spot at the box office.  There was a recent television show sequel failure named “The X-Files: I Want to Believe,” but I just don’t think this is the same.  Expect big things.  Opening weekend take of $75 million seems to be a realistic expectation.

Noodles.
I took my sister to see the first SATC movie because my wife was indifferent to it at the time. After all I had been the one to get hooked on the DVDs of the first couple seasons, and then spend many a Sunday evening with my buddies (Yes, all straight men) watching the girls sex their way to happy relationships on HBO. So when the first "Sex" hit theaters I was jazzed to see what would happen next.

Flash forward a couple more years and not only has my wife seen the first film a few times on cable, she's looking forward to part 2 almost as much as me. When I first heard about another sequel I found myself wondering what they could possibly do with the characters at this point to make the story fun and interesting again. I should have known better.

Looks like they trotted out some oldies but goodies to make a "Sex" fan smile. Aidan is back? My friends and I all thought he got a raw deal, but I'm curious to see what they're going to do with him at this point. Never mind that I find it just entertaining as hell to watch these ladies "do stuff."

Prediction.
The first one made $57 million its opening weekend. I think that the lack of really good romantic and/or entertaining "chick flicks" lately will have this film competing dollar for dollar with the big action schlock of the week. Sorry Prince, but the Queens are back in town. (God that sounds so cheesy, but to hell with it, I've made my choice and I'm owning it.)
