Going The Distance

Run Time: 1 hrs. 37 min.

The Bouw-Man.
Although I would not call myself a Drew Barrymore fan, she does have a knack of starring in better than average romantic comedies.  “The Wedding Singer,” “Fever Pitch,” “50 First Dates,” “Music and Lyrics” and “He’s Just Not That Into You,” are all films comfortably residing in my DVD home library.  She may not be the sole reason for their success, but at the very least you would have to say she makes pretty good film choices.  It’s because of this fact that there is hope for “Going the Distance” when it open in theaters this weekend.

The trailer itself has enough funny bits to believe this is going to be a worthwhile movie experience.  With snappy dialogue and ironic situations throughout the two minute preview, audience members are sure to get their fill if romantic comedies are your thing. Can a long distance relationship work?  This is a very relatable topic since many of us have gone through something similar.  Although the premise is rather simplistic, the potential is definitely there if the main characters and supporting cast are strong.  Justin Long and Drew Barrymore have chemistry, as they both have been linked together off-screen.  Christina Applegate, Jim Gaffigan, Jason Sudeikis, Rob Riggle and Ron Livingston all qualify as decent role players in any sort of comedy picture.

Prediction.
It’s been sort of lame duck year for the romantic comedy genre.  With Justin Long and Drew Barrymore on board for this one, there’s a chance “Going the Distance” will help turn the tables a bit.  However, ‘The Switch” did nothing for audiences two weeks ago and that fell during the summer month of August.  I don’t want to be skeptical, but it is warranted in this case.  Let’s go with $11 million, with the possibility that strong reviews will enable it to remain part of the scope during the entire month of September.
Opening Weekend Gross: $11 Million
