The Bouw-Man.
The film that comes to mind when I viewed the trailer to “You Again” is the 2009 bomb “Bride Wars.”  I remember when I first heard about “Bride Wars,” I thought it had tremendous potential as a black comedy.  I was and still am a fan of both Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway, and the premise of having two best friends schedule their wedding on the same day seemed to be an original storyline.  When the trailer came out I started to have reservations, but still had faith in the film’s two stars and story.  By the time I was 20 minutes into the film at the theater, I wanted to gouge out my eyeballs.

Like “Bride Wars” previously, the plot has promise.  A young woman (Kristin Bell) realizes her brother is about to marry the girl who bullied her in high school.  As a result, she attempts to expose his bride-to-be for the horrible person she is.  To complicate matters more, the mother of the groom (Jamie Lee Curtis) finds out that the mother of the bride (Sigourney Weaver) was the individual who used to bully her in high school.  Mass hysteria is likely to ensue when all these people get together, but the question remains whether this will translate into laughs.  The problem with “Bride Wars” was the film made the women look really stupid and petty.  There’s a real chance we may be looking at the same scenario with “You Again.”  The trailer looks to accompany a lot of the same characteristics (yelling, cat fighting, name calling, etc.), but hopefully the final product will be much better. Not sure how Betty White fits into all of this, but she has to be the most overly exposed 88-year-old I’ve ever seen.

Prediction.
If women choose to give “You Again” a shot this weekend, a nice box office take is possible.  I remember being shocked in 1996 by the popularity of “The First Wives Club,” but it was obviously something that hit a chord with its core audience.  I don’t think “You Again” will be able to enjoy that type of success, but it should reach respectable level.  $12 million sounds like a proper total for a film of this kind.
Opening Weekend Gross: $12 Million

This one looks fun to me. I watch that trailer and there's no part of it that makes me sad. It has all the things that make for a pretty decent chick flick in my book. Good actresses, fun premise, potential for emotional growth, and Betty White. Plus I've been a big Sigorney Weaver fan for years, and she does comedy very well in my book.

I find that I want to see what happens in this film and honestly after seeing so many movies this summer try to create that feeling in me and failing its nice to look forward to a light hearted comedy like this. The only real problem I see is if women are going to feel as interested in You Again as I am. There is some decent competition out this weekend for movie dollars and it makes me wonder if this one is going to succeed or fail.

Prediction.
With Wallstreet sucking in nostalgic 80s movie fans, and Legend of the Guardians snatching up the family dollars, I'm not sure this movie will get its due. Presuming it gets good reviews I think it can finish up in a close third right after Wallstreet.
Opening Weekend: Gross: $19 Million
