Jackass 3-D

Director: Jeff Tremaine

The Bouw-Man.
Just when you thought you seen the last of this crew, here comes “Jackass 3D.”  All this began on MTV back in 2000 as an American stunt and prank show.  It ran until 2002 on MTV, and then the first “Jackass” movie came out in Fall of 2002.  “Jackass: Number Two” came out in Fall of 2006, and now we have “Jackass 3D” in Fall 2010.  Apparently it takes roughly four years to make a “Jackass” film, or else it takes that long to think up enough stupid stuff (not the “s” word I want to print) to include in a 90-minute film.  I don’t know if you can really classify this as a film or not, but I suppose there are worse things to do with your time.  We all enjoy seeing people do stupid stuff (once again, not the “s” word I want to print) to some degree, but one would think “You Tube” and/or your local college frat party would fulfill this void admirably.

I don’t know if you have to really dissect the trailer to see what you’re getting with “Jackass 3D.”  The guy in the portable toilet getting sent flying seems like a funny bit, and the other guy getting hit with the giant hand is also good for a chuckle.  However, it will probably come down to if they saved their best stunts/pranks for the preview or movie itself.  I don’t think anybody would be missing anything here if they waited for the infamous “word of mouth” before they plopped down their money for a 3D showing.  Then again, Johnny Knoxville and his pals do have a cult following based on the success of the previous two “Jackass” films.  I have personally not seen anything related to “Jackass” (television show or movies), but one can appreciate their efforts of bringing this material to the masses.  Heck if “America’s Funniest Home Videos” can still make it out there today, maybe “Jackass” can also.

Prediction.
You have to believe the “Jackass” phenomenon is somewhat past its prime.  The first one made approximately $23 million domestically during its opening weekend ($65 million total), and number two came in at $29 million domestically during the first three days ($73 million total).  However, maybe there are enough high school and college kids out there in need of cheap entertainment to warrant a modern day version.  Let’s go with $18 million for opening weekend, although I wouldn’t be surprised if it exceeds this amount considerably.
Opening Weekend Gross: $18 Million

Noodles.
When I first heard about 'Jackass', those "idiots on that MTV show' making a movie I couldn't care less. I had never really watched the show and I what I had heard about it didn't make me want to. Then when the original 'Jackass: The Movie' hit theaters and I went to see it with my friends, I nearly soiled myself laughing.

This third installment looks like the boys have still got their mojo, and a desire to end up in traction. The stunts look ridiculous, especially when I consider that they are around my age and the thought of doing even a portion of the crap in the trailer makes my back ache.  It may not be high minded entertainment by some folks standard, I have nothing but respect for these crazy showmen and what they do to make us laugh.

Prediction.
Jackass is one of those movies like 'Step Up' or a spoof movie. It has a built in audience that will almost guarantee a $15-20 Million opening weekend. Since this one looks like they put some extra stank on the reel I'm going to say it matches the opening for part two.
Opening Weekend: Gross: $29 Million
