The Bouw-Man.
Well, here’s the latest teenage horror flick to come down the pike. This time we’re dealing with a serial killer who returns to his hometown to stalk the seven children who share the same birthday as the date he supposedly was put to rest. From what the trailer tells us, his soul has entered the body of one of the seven children. So, that kid has been carrying on his legacy without actually knowing they’re killing people. Chances are it’s the main character (named “Bug”), or someone he’s close to. Frankly, I don’t really care and neither should you. Some may say that since Wes Craven is behind this latest installment of cheap thrills, we should put it in higher esteem. For me, however, you can bundle all of these second-rate horror films up, douse them with gasoline and light a match. Now that’s something I would actually pay to see.
The only actor or actress I recognize in the preview is the kid from the holiday “Coke/Walmart” commercial. The song was catchy (“Joy! Enough to Go Round”), but you would think they would at least cast someone with a track record. I guess they must’ve figured as long as you have a lot of teenagers with long hair and hip clothes, then you don’t have to be concerned with any sort of acting experience. Besides, it’s definitely going to keep your budget low when you don’t have to pay your actors much of a salary.
Prediction.
With “Case 39” making only $5.4 million last weekend, and “Let Me In” coming in even below that at $5.1, maybe the well is running dry for these cheap horror films. I’m sure the producers of “My Soul to Take” began to panic when they saw those minuscule totals. Let’s hope their panic is justified after the weekend box office numbers are posted. It’s time to give these types of “films” a rest, and concentrate on making true quality. It should not make more than $5.5 million this weekend, so let’s go with that as a prediction. Enough to

Noodles.
If George Lucas can keep pissing all over his greatest creation in order to make a few extra bucks, why not Mr. Craven? This movie looks like Nightmare on Elm Street without Freddy. And again why must every movie that comes out now subject us the added expense and uselessness of 3D.
Prediction.
Wes Craven is a big name in the horror genre, and despite my disinterest in this latest film I think this will do okay. Not great, just okay.
Opening Weekend: Gross: $20 Million
