Synopsis: After years of dating, Zoe (Jennifer Lopez) has decided waiting for the right one is taking too long. Determined to become a mother, she commits to a plan, makes an appointment and decides to go it alone. On the day of her artificial insemination, Zoe meets Stan (Alex O’Loughlin) – a man with real possibilities. Trying to nurture a budding relationship and hide the early signs of pregnancy becomes a comedy of errors for Zoe and creates confusing signals for Stan.
Noodles' Review
I have to say that for what I must assume is a romantic comedy, J-Lo's tug of war with the little dog holding her pregnancy test as my first clue, it doesn't look to be all that funny. I get that Rom-Coms by nature aim more toward the heart and not the funny bone, but with the number of physical jokes I saw in this two minute trailer I have to think that they're hoping for a chuckle or two.The premise. I like the idea of a woman making a decision about her life and taking action, but this idea loses me when she meets a new guy and totally changes her desire based on the fleeting promise of a new relationship. I have to believe that you don't get to the point her character says she's at, wanting a baby from her gay friend, (an assumption since the guy was wearing a scarf, which to Hollywood screams "GAY!"), and then turn on a dime because of some guy. You're telling me she's never met guys that make her feel all warm and fuzzy at first?
This feels like on of those movies that you catch months later on cable. Afterwards mentally congratulating yourself on avoiding the cost of tickets, popcorn, and candy when you see its only an average film. (Think "New In Town" with Rene Zellweger)
Box Office: J-Lo is a beautiful woman, but this feels very run of the mill for me. I think it will get some initial date night dollars and then drop off from there. So opening weekend... $6 Million
The Bouw-Man Review
There has been a lot written lately how the “romantic comedy” genre is dying, and this trailer does nothing to disprove this argument. Can you put together a safer, more stylized preview than what they have done for this J-Lo vehicle? We have the opening sequence when her friend hearing of her request spits out his drink. We have a dad making a “having a kid” speech, and then his kid saying something deemed “cute.” We have a woman going through the pain associated with pregnancy, and the predictable shock by the main characters witnessing the display. The whole plot is neatly laid out for the viewer step-by-step in the trailer, and anyone with discriminating tastes will likely be done with it after it’s over.
Box Office: J-Lo no longer has the same appeal she had five years ago, so it’s hard to imagine this doing much short or long term at the box office. April 23 is never a good release date for a film, since most viewers are waiting for the May blockbusters to arrive. With a decent alternative (“Date Night’) opening just two weeks earlier, I will say this will come in at about $8.5 million during its opening weekend.
KB's Review
This movie is going to blow. It won't suck in the epic fashion that Gigli did, but is going to be awful. Why does Hollywood want Jennifer Lopez to be Julia Roberts? The preview made me cringe.
Box Office:
$8 million on opening weekend
