Synopsis: An explosive action tale of betrayal and revenge, “The Losers” centers around the members of an elite Special Forces unit sent to the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. But the team—Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar—soon find that they have become the target of a deadly double cross, instigated from the inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max.
The Bouw-Man’s Review
Nothing from the preview leads you to believe that you will be missing anything is you let “The Losers” pass you by during its theatrical run. There are really no box office draws, even though they may all be considered decent actors for what they bring to the screen. The ironic part of this trailer is that the characters and plot seem more fitting for an “A-Team” movie than the actual “A-Team” movie. There seems to be plenty of quips, action sequences and government payback scenes that remind you of the popular 80’s television program.
Box Office: Bottom line, this film is going to need help to make any sort of impression at the box office. It may very well be a fun, action-packed ride, but it’s just a warm-up for “Iron Man 2.” It also doesn’t help that a well-received “Kick-Ass” came out just one week earlier. It has forgotten written all over it, so I see it coming out to a meager $6.9 million over the weekend.
Noodles’ Review
I'm a fan of a good action film and this looks like it could be just that. First off you have a good cast, Idris Elba, Zoe Saldana, and Jeff Dean Morgan to name a few. Then add a tried and true premise; the bad ass paramilitary group that gets betrayed and has to go be even more bad ass to survive. Finally you need a sexy woman, and Zoe Saldana diving into the bathtub in her bra and panties had me at "Hello."
I'm encouraged by the absence of cliche' one liners and over the top special effects. I love explosions as much as the next guy, but when a trailer shows me outlandish visual effects stacked on top of one another, I fear I'm seeing where the focus of the budget was. Suffice it to say this movie looks both action packed and at least decently scripted.
Box Office: Its still early in the season for a true block buster but I think this one will finish at #1 for the weekend, but get knocked off by Nightmare on Elm Street one week later. Opening weekend...$11 Million
KB's Review
I have to say, this movie looks like fun. Snooty critics won't like it, but everyone else will.
Box Office: $15 million on opening weekend (That is just based on the fight scene with Zoe Saldana show in the preview)
