The Bouw-Man.
Whenever I see advertising for the latest Zac Efron film coming to theaters, I always wonder if this kid has what it takes to be real Hollywood superstar.  Obviously he has female appeal, but to take the next step male population has to really want to see the pictures you make.  If I was his agent, I would lobby to get him a starring role in the next summer blockbuster action film ASAP.  Maybe he has no intentions of creating that sort of high-profile career for himself, but that’s what he needs.  Actors like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt started their careers in similar fashion, but it wasn’t until they went the action route that they hit true Hollywood stardom.

The trailer itself appears to hit maximum level on the “sap-o-meter.”  We begin with a story of two brothers who apparently are competitive sailors or something.  So, they must be close.  Next we have a tragic accident that takes the life of the younger brother.  Was the older responsible?  Did he drive drunk, was the person who hit them drunk or was it just an accident?  I don’t know, but I guess I need to pay for a ticket if I’m dying (no pun intended) to find out.  It appears that the older brother is so overcome with guilt, that he can’t let go his younger brother.  He resides to the forest to keep their imaginary relationship alive.  He later meets and falls for a female boating enthusiast.  Now the dilemma: Should he forgive himself and move on with love, or hold onto the memory of his dead brother?  Don’t know if we have something all that compelling here, but it may create some tears for the more sensitive moviegoer.

Prediction.
I’m betting that Mr. Efron doesn’t have enough clout yet to make this heartfelt tragedy drama into a success.  Let’s go with $9 million, and hope he doesn’t revert back to another Disney musical film for his next project.
Opening Weekend Gross: $9 Million

Noodles.
I like this. I'm a big fan of a good touchy feelie movie and this seems like it would pluck the hell out of a heart string or two. You've got good chemistry between two brothers far enough apart in age to avoid the usual trappings of sibling rivalry.  You've got tragedy mixed with a supernatural twist that makes the hurt more bearable. The love story works on many levels with a the love interest making the letting go of his past come to the fore. Then of course you have life threaten to take away all that he finally realizes that he's gained. I guess the only thing that could suck about this is if the girl dies too and he has to spend his life stuck between sailing to see his dead woman, and deep in the woods playing catch with his dead brother.

Prediction.
Zac Efron is one of those "it" guys right now. Women old enough to be his mother are hot to be his "mama." And since this is a love story I think its going to capture a few date dollars.
Opening Weekend: Gross: $21 Million
