The Bouw-Man.
Maybe it’s time to give the animated 3D films a rest.  You expect to see a handful of these during the summer months and around the holidays, but in the middle of September?  This used to be the time of the adult drama, now we have cartoon wolves to contend with.  The young kids are back in school, they don’t need to go to the movies for a while.  Families surely don’t need to pay the extra few bucks to see another 3D film that lasts all of 88 minutes.  It would be really nice to see some of these animated films flop hard, to make producers think before they act.  Don’t look now, but another animated 3D film (“Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole”) is scheduled to open next week.  I just don’t understand.  Check back, because I’m sure I’ll have more to say on the subject.

The trailer in and of itself provides nothing of substance to make even the most movie-obsessed toddler to beg his/her parents to take them.  I like wolves, in fact they’re one of my favorite animals, but it’s not necessary to sully their good name with a lame duck family film.  Justin Long, Hayden Panettiere, Christina Ricci, Danny Glover and the late Dennis Hopper all lend their voices to “Alpha and Omega.”  However since none of them can carry a film by themselves to box office glory, I doubt they will be a deciding factor in this film’s success.

Prediction.
Nothing against this film personally, but it’s time to put the animated group on hold for a while.  Like I previously indicated, it may take a few of these to “crash and burn” severely for this to happen.  I’ll give it a $9.5 million opening weekend, but maybe a total like that isn’t bad enough.
Opening Weekend Gross: $9.5 Million

Noodles.
This is interesting... A kid's cartoon movie that seems made for teens. It has complex  male / female relationship dynamics, the implication of forced breeding, and a little anal humor to boot. This feels like a romantic comedy set in the animal kingdom.

Kids movies are always hard to judge, because no matter how much of a waste of time a film might look like (think Marmaduke) kids will see damn near anything animated. But the problem I have with this one is that it just seems okay. Nothing special, nothing exciting, just okay.

Then add on the cost of a 3D ticket and it becomes something I wouldn't feel any excitement to  take my kids to. How many of these kids movies are going to be in 3D now? All of them? As Eddie Murphy once said "If every day is a sunny day, what's a sunny day?" This film could have been good old 2D and it would have been fine.

Prediction.
I don't think any kids are going to want to dress as "Alpha" this Halloween. Be prepared to say "Hello" and "Goodbye" to this one in a couple weeks for sure.
Opening Weekend: Gross: $7 Million
