The Bouw-Man.
Emma Stone has come out of nowhere to become a viable comedic actress. It all started back in 2007 when she played Jonah Hill’s girl Jules in the smash hit “Superbad.” Since then, she has co-starred in comedies such as “The Rocker,” “The House Bunny,” “Ghosts of Girlfriend’s Past” and “Zombieland.” “Easy A,” however, represents her first leading role. It appears she at least knows how to make smart career choices. It a pretty safe bet that a “PG-13” comedy about the high school infidelity rumor mill will most likely reach a decent-sized audience. With school back in session, “Easy A” should have a big teen following based on its material.
The preview pretty much spells out what you can expect from this comedy. At the request of her gay male friend, Olive (Emma Stone) agrees to stage a fake sexual encounter to improve his high school status. When word gets out among the unpopular, more boys approach her to do the same for them. They entice her with financial compensation, and apparently she can’t say no. Now she is the talk of the high school, as now she has developed a bad reputation of being promiscuous. There are some references to “The Scarlett Letter,” hence the title (referring to the scandalous letter). This should satisfy the literary folk, since it may cause some teenagers to give the Hawthorne classic a read. All and all, there is potential here for some funny comedic moments. The trailer didn’t really make me laugh, but hopefully they saved some of the better scenes for the people who are willing to see the film in its entirety.
Prediction.
I think the film will do fine, because it’s something teenagers want to see on the weekend as a break from school. Not sure if Emma Stone alone is someone who has a big following, but she’s been in enough films that people know what she’s about. Let’s say $15.5 million, counting on a demographic that has a lot of pull.
Opening Weekend Gross: $15.5 Million

I'm going to say this is going to probably be a 'miss' with many people. I think the trailer has its cute moments and I personally think Emma Stone is very cute and fun to watch most of the time. However, there are two things that make me say this will probably do better as a DVD...
1) The Gay - I'm not gay, nor do I have any problem with being gay, but this movie's opening theme seems to embrace the idea of being closeted to avoid ridicule. I'm not saying it doesn't happen in real life, I just question whether people are going to sit through 92 minutes of it.
2) The Funny - I think this is a comedy, but I didn't see very many jokes. I'll admit the part when she punched him in the gut to fake his orgasm made me smile, but that's it. I won't mention the "Tom Cruise" line as its just a tired reference at this point.
Prediction.
I think this is the first movie that Emma Stone has had in Wide release where she is the main star. Its hard to say where I think this one will end up as I have no other film of hers to compare it to. As a fan of the actress I hope it does well, but my expectations are low.
Opening Weekend: Gross: $10 Million
