The Bouw-Man.
The trailer is so unfunny, that you just hope they haven’t brought this wonderful cast together for nothing more than a payday. The first installment of this successful comedic franchise, “Meet the Parents,” was simply put a highly enjoyable film. Although predictable in so many ways, the laughs were consistent throughout, and some even bordered on being some of the best comedy bits in recent memory. It was nice to see Robert DeNiro take on a role that was against type, and Ben Stiller proved that his comedy could stretch past “There’s Something About Mary.” The second installment, “Meet the Fockers,” wasn’t in the original’s realm. However, as far as sequels go, was a worthy addition. Adding Dustin Hoffman and Barbara Streisand to the mix helped give it some chops, and there were at least a couple of really memorable scenes.
Now, we come to number three six years later. Obviously, a new angle was required, so we have kids involved in “Little Fockers.” With the unlikelihood that the third installment will offer anything groundbreaking on the comedy front, there is a real danger that it could potentially really damage the legacy. Remember “Beverly Hills Cop 3?” If so, you probably wish you could forget about it really soon. That’s what I’m fearful of in “Little Fockers.” Like the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise, the first was great, second was decent and based on the preview, the third looks dismal. I mean when the big joke is that Jack Burns is taking an erectile dysfunction pill, how much tiresome can you get? Sprinkle in some “I’m watching you” dialogue between the two main characters, and you have the equivalent of an old stand-up comedian telling the same jokes over and over again.
Prediction.
It will be interesting to see how “Little Fockers” does at the box office. I think the public in anxious to laugh, so they’ll latch on to anything that is coming out. Since “Little Fockers” is a known entity, that should at least get it a decent payday opening weekend. “Meet the Fockers” didn’t disappoint in 2004 when it racked up over $46 million opening weekend, and later amassed a domestic total of nearly $280 million. I can’t imagine “Little Fockers” will reach those types of numbers, but a $38 million opening weekend take seems about right.
Opening Weekend Gross: $38 Million
Noodles.
Prediction.
I don't know how much less I could care about this film. I thought the first Film 'Meet The Parents' had its moments, but never did I imagine that they would milk two more films out of that concept. At this point you figure DeNiro's 'Jack' would pull the stick out of his ass, and give Ben Stiller a break. After each film he seems to thaw, but apparently during the hiatus realizes how big of a douche his daughter is married to. I don't think I cracked a smile once during the whole damn trailer.
Last time we saw the crazy Fockers (Yeah I get the joke, but its tired now) they opened for around $46 Million. I think with the addition of a couple annoying kids its only going to get worse.
Opening Weekend: Gross: $35 Million
