The Bouw-Man.
Let me just start by saying that I really despise James Cameron. I never saw “Titanic” or “Avatar,” and I plan to avoid both as long as I have control over my film choices. He may not be directing this particular film, but his name is still attached to its content. That’s the clincher for me. I will not see this film, and the preview that I have been forced to watch only emphasizes this desire.
From his previous work, it’s evident that Cameron doesn’t much care about creating convincing dialogue between his characters. Just cruise past a script of “Titanic” or “Avatar,” and you’ll see some of the most trite conversations and overused catch phrases from start to finish. Look no further than the closing phrase in the “Sanctum” trailer for what you can expect from this latest edition. The leader of the expedition proclaims, “Never give up. No matter what happens. You never give up.” Wow, that’s compelling dialogue. Way to go, Cameron. You’ve really outdone yourself this time.
Prediction.
I’m probably being too hard on “Sanctum,” but I would just like to see Cameron have a bomb. Although he’s not directing this, it would be still nice to see him miss with “Sanctum.” The cast is pretty much a bunch a “no-names,” so Cameron is the drawing point. Let’s say $9.9 million, because I just don’t want to see it hit double digits.
Opening Weekend Gross: $9.9 Million
Noodles: Prediction
I like James Cameron, but just popping his name on the top of your movie poster doesn't make me want to want to see it.
Opening Weekend Gross: $17 Million
